Empowering Youth: Celebrating World Youth Skills Day with Unique Foundation

Celebrating World Youth Skills Day with Unique Foundation!

Today, July 15th, we celebrate World Youth Skills Day, a vital occasion that highlights the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to navigate an ever-evolving world. At Unique Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting vulnerable children, youth, women, and rural communities in The Gambia and Nigeria. Our mission is to empower marginalized individuals and communities, tackling educational and socioeconomic challenges head-on.

Since our inception in 2014, we’ve proudly impacted over 100,000 women, men, girls, and boys through capacity building, skills training, awareness campaigns, and empowerment initiatives. Here are some of our key achievements:

💪 Promoted gender-responsive community and youth-led actions to increase awareness of gender-based violence and support school enrollment and retention for young girls and boys.

📚 Organized interventions spotlighting the protection of women and girls’ rights in digital spaces, addressing online and ICT-facilitated gender-based violence, and improving digital education and literacy for young girls.

📖 Provided literacy classes for out-of-school girls and boys to build resilience, reduce vulnerability to SGBV, and promote coping strategies.

🎓 Offered educational resources to children from low-income families, prevented dropout with targeted interventions, and provided second-chance education to unschooled adults.

👩‍🏫 Taught income-generating skills to unemployed and underemployed youth, helping them break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures.

We recognize education as a fundamental right and a pathway out of poverty. In Nigeria, 13.2 million children aged 5-14 are out of school, according to UNICEF. In The Gambia, educational inequality and poverty remain significant challenges, with high dropout rates and low adult literacy levels. By offering tuition-free second chance education programs, we aim to increase schooling opportunities, prevent dropout, and reduce adult illiteracy rates.

Join us in celebrating World Youth Skills Day and our ongoing commitment to empowering the youth of West Africa. Together, we can build a brighter future! #WorldYouthSkillsDay #EmpowerYouth #UniqueFoundation #EducationForAll #SkillsForLife
